Hilarious!
Honestly, my friend asked me to go see this with her and I didn't have high hopes. But I was completely wrong. This was hilarious! The entire audience (at least those around me) were laughing so hard, like throw your head back and laugh. Warning: a lot of this is "inappropriate" especially for smaller children, although there were plenty of them there so maybe it's ok. And there is a lot a swearing. I found it all amazingly great, but if you don't like that kind of thing, well, at least now you know. When I went, I was seated behind the world's largest headed man, so I had to watch the entire show with my head tilted to see around him (it's been days and my neck is still sore) but it was worth it. A lot of the audience dressed up in Beetlejuice style, so get there early to see all the great outfits! If it comes back to town next year, I already have a large group of people who want to go! I was worried that it wouldn't be as good the 2nd time, but there was a family next to us that has seen it enough that they could recite the words along with the characters (which is super annoying btw, don't do that) and they still seemed to enjoy it.
A movie-based musical that holds its own
The show was amazing! I was a bit heaitant going in, curious as to how they would manage to adapt the Beetlejuice movie into a worthwhile musical. I was nervous it wouldnt have a great plot. But, I was pleasantly surprised by a well written script that mauntained just the right elemnts from the movie while managing to hold its own. Beetlejuice breaking the fourth wall through the show made it feel as though the audience was involved in the show, not just outsiders looking in.
The staff at the opera house were all pleasant to interact with; everyone seemed happy to be there.
All in all, a great experience and a show I would love to see again!
